In this year's National Championships there were some outstanding all-round results for our Region with firsts in Dressage, Countryside Challenge, Combined Training, Tack & Turnout and Arts & Crafts.
The Regional Dressage Team of Millie Read, Karen Grant and Callum Wright won the Saturday Trophy with their three highest percentage scores. The Regional Countryside Challenge Team of Sarah Telford, Sarah Allenby and Owen Breeze came third on the Sunday, Samantha Dowson from Richmond & Catterick group, on Cracker, was third overall in the Countryside Challenge Senior Championship and Mandy Schofield of Middleton Park Equestrian Centre, Leeds was second placed in the Pat Straughan Medal of Commendation awarded annually to a rider who ‘has shown outstanding courage and determination to persevere and meet the challenge to ride’.
The Yorkshire & Cleveland Regional RDA are indebted to their unsung heroes and heroines - the volunteers - and to all those local businesses and trusts whose contributions made all this possible.

Regional Dressage Qualifying Competition
Middleton Park, June 4th 2006
Twenty six riders rode thirty five tests at the qualifying competition on June 4th. The standard of riding and turnout was excellent – everyone improves every year. Mrs. B. Smith, from Lancashire, judged for five hours and was very impressed by the dedication and competence of the riders. Well done! The results can be seen in the chart.
Seventeen riders now qualify to ride at the Championships at Hartpury on July 15th & 16th, with an additional two riders qualifying as winners of last year’s championship classes.
Thank you to Middleton Park for hosting the day and to all the group trainers for their efforts in getting riders, ponies, test sheets, parents, partners, tack, lunch and a million other things together in one place and one time!

Results from Middleton Park Dressage
Kate Thompson and the staff at Middleton Park, Leeds hosted a busy RDA Dressage Competition on Sunday 22nd January 2006. Mrs Sackville-Hamilton judged all day from 9.30 – 4.00pm and was impressed with the standard and dedication of all the riders. It is very nice to see everyone improve every time they compete.
Kate and Carmen had prepared 22 Middleton Park riders. Elaine and all the Otley helpers aided by Judy Olby and Ann Everall transported 3 horses and around 16 riders to take part. Kay Brandon and Heidi Hutchinson brought 2 riders and ponies down from Cleveland and representatives from 2 more groups came to watch and see if they could take part in the future.
Kate hopes to run another competition in March, so please join us if you can. Thank you to everyone who helped to create a special day for all the riders.
